The Mantle seeks a managing editor for a soon-to-be launched imprint of international literature. The ME will work very closely with and report directly to both the Publisher and Associate Publisher.

As the ME, you will oversee all aspects of the imprint's operations, including:

  • Acquisition -- scouting for authors and titles, evaluating manuscripts, securing rights and contracts
  • Liaising with authors scattered around this beautiful Earth
  • Production -- editing, interior and exterior design, deadlines, and publishing to several digital and print platforms
  • Marketing and publicity -- promoting individual titles, groups/themes of titles, and the imprint's brand as a whole, using social media (womp womp), newsletters, events, and other means
  • Attendance at industry events
  • Keeping an ear to ground for what's what in international literature and trends
  • And other relevant tasks as they arise

You should:

  • Have prior experience in the world of books
  • Embody a start-up mentality
  • Edit like it's nobody's business
  • Be tenacious
  • Have a keen eye for detail
  • Be extremely organized
  • Be able to manage multiple projects at different stages at once
  • Work independently and be proactive
  • Be highly emotionally intelligent
  • Check your ego
  • Be a cool person -- assholes need not apply

If this sounds like a lot of fun and you're genuinely interested in getting involved, contact Shaun Randol (shaun [at] themantle.net).
